Jobs Up, Unemployment Rate Down, Bullhorn Up, Monster Down
The jobs report showed 176,000 jobs created in November, outdoing analysts’ forecasts of only 80,000. Private payrolls accounted for 147,000 of these new jobs. The unemployment rate dropped to 7.7%, a 4-year low.
Hurricane Sandy is said to only have had a minimal effect however long-time job searchers who have stopped looking and are no longer counted in the unemployment rate are thought to account for a portion of the decline.
Sectors that grew employment in November include retail trade (+53,000), professional & business services (+43,000), and health care (+20,000).

West Valley Staffing Group (WVSG) most recent quarterly survey asked “Do you expect your hiring needs to increase, remain steady, or decrease in the next quarter and beyond?” to which 89% of respondents predicted that hiring will increase or remain steady.
Monster, one of the largest employment websites in the world, on the other hand is downsizing, refocusing operations in North American and key European and Asian markets. The company is laying off development talent following the completion of Monster’s latest search and cloud technology projects, and a decision to cut costs.
