The dog days of summer saw it heating up in the Cloud Hosting, Wine Application, Enterprise Software, Wireless, and Digital Health Technology sectors. Redfish Technology placed Tech Pros in roles such as: Data Center Operations Specialist, Business Development Manager, Senior UX / UI Designer, Front End Developer, and Android Software Engineer in July.

 

ADP reported the creation of 185,000 new nonfarm private jobs; small business accounted for 59,000 of those jobs.The Bureau of Labor Statistics weighed in with increased employment of 215,000 in July, as compared with an average monthly gain of 246,000 over the past year. Employment in retail trade increased (+36,000), health care (+28,000), professional and technical services (+27,000), financial activities (+17,000), manufacturing (+15,000), food services and drinking places (+29,000), and transportation and warehousing (+14,000).

 

FinTech is growing, on Wall Street of course, but in California too, especially in the Silicon Valley. Of course security plays a role in Financial Services technology, but is growing in all sectors that are adopting cloud and moving into mobile.

 

The TechServe Alliance reported IT jobs grew 0.3% last month, and on a year over year basis IT employment has grown by 4.4% since June 2014. Engineering jobs grew at a paltry 0.1% last month, and 0.7% since June 2014.

 

There’s a little see-sawing between consumer and manufacturer confidence. The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index improved in June, but declined in July. But orders for durable goods increased in June, ending two months of declines. U.S. labor costs are rising at the slowest pace in 3 decades, which suggests some slack remains in the general labor market.
