Green Trends
How can the Clean Economy be fostered and what is the potential?
In the midst of the ideological divergence and posturing in Washington, it is refreshing to see some clear numbers that point to positive impactful investment and jobs in the green economy. The Metropolitan Policy Program at the Brookings Institute recently published their report “Sizing the Clean Economy” which ask and answers “The question before us: at a time of economic uncertainty and federal polarization, can America’s cities and metropolitan areas lead the nation to a clean economy—to create jobs in the near term and retool and restructure our economy for the long haul?”

High Tech Job Trends
A number of recent reports show job growth attributed to the stimulus measures: The Council of Economic Advisors (CEA) shows a creation/retention of 2.5 to 3.6 million jobs over what it would otherwise have been. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO)’s May report indicates that the Recovery Act has created between 1.2 million and 2.8 million workers, and projects up to 3.7 by the end of Q3.
The fiscal stimulus increased substantially in the first quarter of 2010 and further in the second quarter (from $80 billion in the fourth quarter of 2009 to $108 billion in the first quarter of 2010 to $116 billion in the second quarter of this year). Government investment in areas such as infrastructure, clean energy, and communications technology increased by roughly 50 percent between the first and second quarters of 2010. (more…)

But no more, “We are now beginning the next transformation in information technology: the wireless broadband revolution.” We’ll all be opening a Twitters (sic) account and tossing out the old red phone. In order to accommodate the 3 million iPads sold in 80 days and the proliferation of products such as smartphones, laptop internet connections, and new wireless devices such as Cisco’s coming Cius tablet computer running on Google’s Android OS, the amount of bandwidth available on the airwaves will almost be doubled.
