Recruiting Success Stories:
Featured Placement – Michael Davis
RVP of Sales – Unified Communications and Work Force Optimization
The Senior VP of this successful Unified Communications company tapped Redfish Technology when he needed a Regional Vice President. A global software and IT services firm specializing in applying Microsoft unified communications, it was critical to our client to find someone with a proven telecommunications background. Redfish directly recruited this senior-level national and regional sales executive for his solid background building and managing sales team in the UC and contact center space.
“Working with Joanna Bradley at Redfish Technology made the difference for me in choosing Aspect. She kept the process on pace and kept me informed at all times. Joanna took a very honest approach in the evaluation of the company and how my skillsets would fit with current management. Based on her guidance I was able to make an informed decision regarding my future. Everyone at Redfish was professional with returned phone calls, meetings held on time and most importantly made me feel they had my best interest at heart.”

What are the hottest growth cities in the tech/STEM sectors?
Forbes recently published an article “The Best Cities For Tech Jobs”, in which the author, Joel Kotkin, analyzed tech-related jobs (including software, data processing and Internet publishing), and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics-related) employment, in companies spanning manufacturing to business services to finance.
Interestingly, Silicon Valley isn’t in the top five despite the preponderance of high profile tech companies there. In fact, despite offering the most tech and STEM jobs in the U.S., Silicon Valley employed 170,000 less folks in 2011 than in 2000.
Coming in number one is the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro, with increased tech employment of 43% and STEM of 18% in the decade from 2001 to 2011. The last two years documented 12% growth in tech jobs, and 7.6% growth in STEM jobs. (more…)

Profoundly understanding the technical needs, culture and mission of the company, Redfish Technology knew a winning match immediately when we met Christopher.
Christopher Geheran is a savvy and focused web developer with over 12 years of experience building complex, data-driven web sites and applications. He worked as a lead front-end developer / manager and subject matter expert for Barclays for 4 years on their iShares products; he previously built and managed an Ecommerce Technology Team for Express.com. He has a knack for creating simple, elegant solutions for complex business challenges. Christopher’s work has been recognized by employers including receiving the ‘Who Made It Happen’ and ‘Brand Hero’ awards by Bloomingdales and Express.
“Once a technology resume goes public, many job inquiries come through. I would say only about 30% of those calls are worth a follow-up. When I first spoke with Rob Reeves at Redfish, I expected an impersonal 5 minute conversation. Instead, Rob was very thorough and asked all the right questions. Rob understands the specifics of what his clients are looking for and was able to quickly match my skill-set with a fantastic opportunity. I am extremely grateful for Rob’s diligence; he placed me with a company that fit the culture, technology, and goals I was looking for. Thanks!” – Christopher Geheran

A How To in a Hot Job Market
“As the market heats up, candidates no longer go months without returned phone calls, but rather, quite the opposite,” reports Executive Recruiter Joanna Edwards. “With a positive shift in the economy comes a new set of challenges that hiring managers must be prepared to combat.”
As a corporate matchmaker, it is Redfish’s mission to help companies find their ideal candidates. In response to changing market conditions, Redfish has been advising companies on evolving talent acquisition strategies. The dialogue continues in the first of a new series of webinars for hiring managers in the High Tech and Green Tech industries: “Closing Candidates: A How To in a Hot Job Market.”
Closing candidates is an important skill in any environment, but it becomes especially important as the economy transitions. After dozens of phone interviews, multiple on-site meetings, team meetings and reference checks, the time and costs of your hiring process are already adding up. The competitive edge can be dulled if time is wasted on an unsuccessful hiring process. (more…)

Reinventing Recruiting … After The Recession
By Kristan Kennedy
The Year We Wish … Didn’t Happen
I don’t know about the rest of you hiring gurus out there, but 2009 is a year I’m glad is gone.
Think back to the end of 2008 as a recruiter. I was confident! I walked into the office one September morning expecting to schedule ten interviews for solid startups in California. Focused on the details of scheduling a dozen strong candidates, I was ill-prepared for the day’s headlines. The Dow plunged 650 points. Lehman collapsed. Market confidence plunged in tandem with the Venture money that backed my companies and my world – It happened quickly, shockingly.
Seven of my companies froze hiring in the next 24 hours. Silicon Valley Venture Capital money flow dried up like a Sahara drought. Candidates calling “looking” for jobs increased tenfold in the ensuing weeks, scared of impending layoffs. Even my hiring managers were sending me resumes! For staffing specialists like myself, it was the “great depression” of technology recruiting – and my business disappeared in a week. (more…)
