Reference Checks take out One in Five Job Candidates From Consideration

A new survey published by OfficeTeam shows that 21% of candidates are removed from consideration when the reference check is performed. Hiring managers predominantly are seeking to more information on a candidate’s past duties and experience, the second most common questions regard the applicant’s strengths and weaknesses.

The survey asked "When speaking to an applicant's job references, what is the most important information you hope to receive?" The survey results are:

36%  Description of past job duties and experience
31%  A view into the applicant's strengths and weaknesses
11%  Confirmation of job title and dates of employment 
8%    Description of workplace accomplishments
7%    A sense of the applicant's preferred work culture
