Positive Job Creation Indicators Revealed in the 20th Anniversary Executive Job Market Intelligence Report
Companies are planning on growth, both via new management hires and trading up new hires for existing executive roles to fill gaps or improve teams. Recruiters weighed in on executive job creation reporting they expect 51 percent of employers will be adding headcount through “trading up” with new hires for existing executive jobs and 27 percent will create new executive roles over the next six months. Only 2 percent of companies surveyed intend on continuing the management cutbacks that have been in effect during the economic downturn. Read more »

April Showers Turn Out to be a Drizzle.
April didn’t shower us with an abundance of jobs; with an increase of only 115,000 net, and 130,000 in private payrolls. This slow-down disappointed after March’s 154,000 new jobs and February’s 259,000. The biggest gains were in professional & business services at 62,000, retail trade increased by 29,000, health care rose by 19,000, and leisure & hospitality added 12,000. Goods-producing jobs increased by 14,000 after a 38,000 rise in March. Read more »
Job Boards and Social Media May Replace Recruiters…

Many people believe that job boards are as useful as recruiters, and may even replace them. Companies post jobs on Monster and niche boards. Job seekers are using social media to target their next job. Anyone can post a job pitch on YouTube, the world’s second largest search engine. Networking is viral, right? So why work with a recruiter?
Ironically, using the internet and working with a recruiter are quite opposite methods of locating the talent you need. And yet both are useful of course.
Remember that expression about searching for a needle in a haystack? It refers to a difficult or impossible search for a particular object amongst a huge mountain of similar objects.
Recruiters are often enlisted for the more difficult or critical talent searches. Sometimes the company doesn’t have the dedicated resources to comb the pile of resumes that can result from a job posting or other talent outreach. Often if the hiring manager isn’t the one reading the resumes initially, and the right talent may be overlooked while the hiring manager is barraged by less qualified or less suitable potential candidates. Winning the Tech Talent War

In today’s economic situation, companies are facing multiple new challenges when it comes to staffing. According to Forrester Research, today’s recruiting growth rate prediction is at 8%. Many theorists believe that this is because of the looming talent shortage and disconnect between positions open and skills of candidates applying. Another factor is that companies, while emerging from recession, are still remaining cautious on spending and are very selective when acquiring talent, regardless of their growing need to add headcount. Our nationwide overall unemployment rate has been hovering around 10%, and yet when we take a closer look within technology these numbers are closer to 4%. Other considerations that are affecting this climate are employee turnover, Baby Boomers retiring, more restrictive policies on foreign workers, companies resistant to relocation costs, and overall reluctance from employees to change jobs. So our challenge is how to cope with a growing talent shortage within the high tech and green tech industries.

IT Employment Trends
Redfish is seeing competition for key technology roles, which we discuss in Executive Recruiter, Andy Nacsin’s article “Winning the Tech Talent War”. Hiring and job postings are continuing to grow overall as evidenced in recent reporting on IT jobs.
The TechServe Alliance just published its IT Employment Index for June, showing an increase of 132,800 (up 3.39%) from June 2010. Overall in Q2 of this year the number of IT jobs has increased, as it had since December 2009, however the month of June slipped slightly by 300 from the month before. IT employment is at 4,051,200; an increase of approximately 133,000 jobs since June 2010. Indeed.com reports that Information Technology job postings have increased 44% over July 2010 (8% over last quarter), and clicks on those jobs have increased 7% since July 2010. Read more »
