ROLE: Senior Data Scientist

EMPLOYMENT: Full-Time or Fractional

LOCATION: Remote – US

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Our client is an AI optimization engine for retail and consumer brands.

The company is building a highly technical team of PhD-level data scientists, engineers, and experienced founders with a track record of building successful companies. Its Advisory Board includes statistics and data science professors from top universities.

Our client is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to lead the measurement and modeling work at the core of its product.

WHAT THIS PERSON WILL OWN

• Design, test, and improve the models powering our client’s recommendations
• Take causal inference and experimentation work from research prototype ? production
• Collaborate closely with data scientists, engineers, and academic advisors
• Validate model performance using real customer data
• Take ownership of a core modeling workstream and ship it into production

FIRST 90 DAYS

• Become fluent in our client’s data, models, and codebase
• Work closely with the existing technical team
• Take ownership of a core modeling workstream
• Ship that work into production
• Support measurement for pilot customers beginning October 2026

IDEAL CANDIDATE

• Has shipped causal inference and experimentation work into production
• Ideally comes from a technology or marketplace environment
• Master’s or PhD in Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field — or equivalent experience
• Excited by the intersection of academia + industry
• Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, early-stage environment
• Strong ownership mentality
• CPG or retail data experience is a bonus, not a requirement

TECHNICAL MUST-HAVES

Concrete experience working with and implementing:

• Synthetic Control
• Difference-in-Differences (DiD)
• Double Machine Learning (Double ML)

TEAM / REPORTING

• Senior Individual Contributor
• Part of the Data Science team
• Reports directly to the CEO
• Works closely with data scientists, engineers, founders, and academic advisors
• Potential path into product leadership for the right person, including Head of Product / CPO

COMPENSATION

• Target base: $140K–$160K
• Flexibility toward $180K for an exceptional candidate
• Equity opportunity with standard 4-year vesting
• Compensation dependent on experience and full-time vs. fractional engagement

Rather than researching models in isolation, this person will have direct ownership over taking sophisticated causal inference methodologies, applying them to customer data, and getting them into production.
